Drawing Being – Delight in Small Things
This book is a dive under the skin of an artist, a dreamer and an enthusiast in life through drawing. Diaries filled with drawings have always been a constant companion of mine.
The drawings are a visual account of recollection and awareness; a concrete record of one journey in an attempt of leading a good life and being a better, more appreciative version of of me as a fully expressed self – an expression of seeing and feeling the delight in small things; never loosing the wonder of experiencing the world for the first time and seeing the brilliance in a dew drop.
I’ve been drawing as long as l’ve been able to hold a pen in my hand and the memory based drawings of my daily life in all its forms span over two decades. This book is a dive under the skin of an artist, a dreamer and an enthusiast in life through drawing.
Diaries filled with drawings have always been a constant companion of mine. More recently I have come to think of these drawings as a commentary on the overflow of photographs in social media as well. This book is a logbook of sense of connection to physical and emotional effects and reactions to the world around me.
The drawings are a visual account of recollection and awareness; a concrete record of one journey in an attempt of leading a good life and being a better, more appreciative version of me as a fully expressed self – an expression of seeing and feeling the delight in small things; never loosing the wonder of experiencing the world for the first time and seeing the brilliance in a dew drop.
My work as an artist wanders between drawing, painting, photography and three dimensional works. I explore the spaces within and between these diverse disciplines. Working with multiple media – involving oil paintings, watercolours, soft pastels, printmaking, clay and even doll-making – I’m on a quest to get to the bottom of the human need of beauty and comprehension: This book contains a chain of subjective moments leading to intimacy and intuition. I’m only able to approach this intuitive state of communication through images of feeling and analytical assumptions. With an image, our consciousness becomes ”uplifted”, tickled into contact with thought patterns that ordinarily may be ”in repose”.
Images are something closer to physical experience and no longer to be considered only descriptive. Instead, they exist to connect, to inspire and to access experience.
Inspired by European and Asian traditions in fine arts, I’m driven by an almost aching need of expressing in images what I haven’t yet found in other works of art. Thus, in my artworks, I’m trying to capture the overwhelming beauty I perceive, motivated by the curiosity and compelling urge of making it accessible to others. In painting, the impetus for my mental and conceptual process is almost always light, light in its many shades and facets and my impression of it. These drawings are woven into the thought process as sparks of clarity, delight and appreciation or deeper emotion.
